Playing Your Song – Detroit Concert Venues Feature the Biggest Names in Music

Up for some music? Want to see your favorite music performer in action? Love the live experience of a concert? Detroit’s

capacity for handling big crowds and drawing the biggest names in music makes it a prime destination for concert-goers. This

is Motown after all – the city where the likes of Stevie Wonder and the Supremes launched their careers. Rising stars and

local bands still find an enthusiastic welcome for music of all kinds in Detroit City.

Fox Theatre

The preservation of the Fox Theatre is one of Detroit’s proudest achievements. The 5,000-seat palace of the arts, arguably

the most opulent in the nation when it opened in 1928, was designated a national landmark in 1989 after an $11 million

renovation. The Fox is now busy with concerts, family-oriented shows and a wide variety of other offerings. It’s the anchor

of the Theatre District and perhaps Detroit’s greatest civic treasure. In 2008, the Fox welcomes American pop band The Jonas

Brothers; Grammy award-winning R&B, soul and jazz singer Jill Scott; and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss, recipients of the

2007 Grammy award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals, for the track Gone Gone Gone. Audiences can also catch big-name

entertainers like comedians Chris Rock and Frank Caliendo.

Joe Louis Arena

Home of the 10-time Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings, Joe Louis Arena proudly stands along the banks of the Detroit

River. The 20,058-seat arena is Detroit City’s largest indoor venue and regularly hosts exciting attractions, including

professional sports, college hockey, concerts, circuses, and even Disney on Ice shows. The People Mover stops at its door, so

concert goers can park elsewhere downtown and reach the arena quickly. The Foo Fighters are set to rock Joe Louis Arena in

2008. Def Leppard with REO Speedwagon and Styx will also make an appearance here and later in the year, Rush makes a stop at

Joe Louis during their extended Snakes & Arrows World Tour.

Cobo Arena

Situated near the Detroit River, the Cobo Arena is one of Michigan’s finest event sites, entertaining national and

international audiences for over four decades. While the Detroit Basketball Championships are held here, so are some of the

greatest rock and roll concerts in the world – Slipknot, Madonna and KISS, to name a few. Contemporary bands such as Weezer,

Jimmy Eat World, Bush, Oasis, Blink 182, and the Goo Goo Dolls, as well as seasoned veterans like Bob Dylan play here. Cobo

hosts several sporting and civic events, rallies, gatherings, and location shoots.

DTE Energy Music Theatre

Originally known as the Pine Knob Music Theatre, due to its proximity to the nearby Pine Knob ski area and golf course, the

DTE Energy Music Theatre was renamed in 2001 when DTE Energy purchased the area’s premiere outdoor amphitheater. Despite this

change, many people still continue to call the venue “Pine Knob” or “the knob.” Many of music’s greatest stars have performed

at the theater, including Chicago and Eddie Money. The Detroit venue is also on some of the biggest tours of the summer

concert season, including Ozzfest, Gigantour, and Reggae Sunsplash. Canadian power-trio Rush have regarded the DTE as their

favorite venue to play in the United States. The blockbuster Police tour makes its stop at the DTE in the summer of 2008. Tim

McGraw and Gingantour with Megadeath are also scheduled to appear during the May to September concert season.

Meadow Brook Music Festival

Located at Oakland University, the Meadow Brook Music Festival accommodates up to 8,000 in the expansive outdoor pavilion and

lawn seating area. The Meadow Brook Music Festival is the official summer home of the renowned Detroit Symphony Orchestra, in

addition to being one of the top concert venues in Michigan, showcasing the musical talents of James Taylor and His Band of

Legends in 2008.

Palace of Auburn Hills

Detroit’s premier auditorium-style concert venue is often referred to simply as the Palace, and is home of the Detroit

Pistons and hosts numerous concerts and special events throughout the year. Some of the venue’s past big-name entertainers

include Sting, David Lee Roth, and Crosby, Stills and Nash. In early 2008, the Spice Girls performed at the Palace as part of

their reunion tour The Return of the Spice Girls to a sold-out crowd. The 2008 season also includes Avril Lavigne, Creedence

Clearwater Revisited, Santana, Kanye West, Tom Petty, and Celine Dion.

Detroit Symphony Orchestra

Founded in 1914, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra is one of the United States’ most prestigious and accessible orchestras. In

2003, it launched the Max M. Fisher Music Center, a performing arts complex, which has become a popular venue for musical

concerts of various genres, including some of the most popular jazz concerts in town. The Max houses the famous Orchestra

Hall, the Music Box, Atrium, and Allesee Hall. Excellent acoustics and state-of-the-art facilities make every performance

memorable. The Max also has facilities to host conferences, private concerts, banquets and weddings. The Chieftans, Ireland’s

musical ambassadors, make their appearance at the Fisher in 2008, as well as five-time Academy award-winner John Williams,

followed by New Orleans Jazz and the Mambo Kings.

Wherever you’re going, Checker Sedan is a better way to get there. Our vehicles and drivers will spoil you with luxury. And

our little extras make us the obvious choice for people who are going places.

Classic country music is an assortment of tunes from diverse cultures and music patterns.
Each style is divergent and unique in style. The use of rhythms, chord structures and musical intonations vary. Though modern country music can use contemporary beats, they are adaptations of classic versions. Classic country music has an individualistic character that has been developed to suit the  musician’s  voice modulation capacity and style. The classics are unique and provide inimitable singing styles. This includes the styles of music legends Jimmy Rodgers and Hank Williams.

Music – The Unseen Marketing Force

Have you ever pondered music? I don’t mean thinking about the notes or the beat or the even the instrumentation. I mean have you pondered it?
To ponder: to weigh carefully in the mind; contemplate thoughtfully: He pondered his next words thoroughly.
Think about what music is. It’s intangible. It’s really indefinable. It has no shape, yet it shapes thoughts. It has no function of its own, yet somehow helps us function
Music has the power to stir emotions…
…And of its own accord can’t fulfill any of them. It is not necessary to perform our daily duties, but how many places of business do you find with no music. I certainly don’t remember many. Music can’t comb your hair, brush your teeth, or tie your shoes, but it can ease you through those mundane tasks and make you forget about the time.
You don’t need words to enjoy music. You don’t need status. You don’t even need people around. It is not poured from a bottle, shaken from a cannister, or even dolloped from a 5 gallon bucket. Still; it may be as refreshing as champagne, spicy as cayenne, and rich and decadent as gold ring homemade vanilla ice cream. (you Texans will really know what I mean by that last reference)
Music appeals to fewer than our five senses, but it additionally appeals to more than our senses. When you study musical structure, it makes perfect logical sense. But when you try to explain why it “moved” you, decidedly usually you can’t quite convey it satisfactorily.
It has been n’t because it smelled, tasted, felt, sounded, or looked so nice. It has been what it did to your cerebral cortex. Or can be it hit you in the “gut”, but it didn’t actually hit you, and it has been n’t actually your “gut”. See what I mean? You can’t put your finger on it. In fact you can’t touch it at all. You just know. You know?
Why in the world am I going on and on about music? Thanks for asking.
Music is a form of creative copy, too. It’s an al the majority perfect way to ingrain an idea into the minds of your target market. Because in the absence of exception there has always been this common chord. ( prefer my musical metaphor?) people love music! No surprise… It’s extremely versatile, dependable, believable, and yet inexplicable.
I’m additionally a songwriter. I take the same octave countless other artists use and establish my little piece of semi-immortality to satisfy…what? Me? An audiences? A paycheck? All of the above? None of the above? The answer is yes to all the questions. I’ve written tunes for each of those purposes. And each one has been satisfying in its own way because each one involved the intangible little friend of mine. Music. I’m not sure why I’m so moved by this unseen companion, but I do know this:
Music is a gift from God. It, and your thoughts, can never be stolen from you, forced out of you, or driven away from you…as long as you want it; you have got it. How incredible is such a gift. Yeah,  we  can live in the absence of music, but
It would not be nearly as joyous an existence.
To your musical satisfaction…

Got Those Concert Tickets Now Have A Great Night

Posted by Music Blog | Posted in Live Music Blog, Live Music Seattle | Posted on 27-04-2009

Now that you have your dream concert tickets, how can you guarantee to have a great night. Well the only way is to plan, What

you may ask needs planning ”I’ve got the tickets” what else is there well what about the venue, eating before or after,

getting there, security and getting home.

Most modern concert venues are extremely large and are capable of holding thousands of people. And almost all of them have

multiple entry and exit points a good idea before you arrive at your venue is to know your entry point the last thing you

need is to be searching for the right door 5 minutes before the start with 2000 other people.

Parking. It is imperative that you have this worked out beforehand you do not want to walk a great distance both before and

after the event or even be looking for parking when you should be in the concert.

Eating before hand is also fraught with danger, what I do is book a restaurant beforehand, at booking I ask them how long

does it takes to get served. After all you don’t want to leave the meal half way through, or worse be late for the show and

remember don’t drink too much as it will impact on those around you and your own enjoyment.

Getting there and home again is always an important consideration, in many venues there is insufficient parking at peak

times, so it is sometimes best to catch public transport check the arrival times and distance to venue from the drop off

point, once again you don’t want to be late. Another great thing about public transport is that you are able to have a couple

of drinks and not drive home which is always a plus.

Security, after a concert I tend to wait at the venue for 15 to 20 minutes so as to let the crowd disperse it is dangerous

when so many people are all trying to leave at the same time. If you are picking up younger concert goers they will be much

easier to see once the crowd has gone. Venue security will still be around at this stage thus making it safer for youngsters,

remember to designate a specific pick up point for them and give them a mobile phone in case a problems arises.

Whilst this is not a definitive list it does show you that there are things to sort out before you depart home to make things

more enjoyable.

In light of the digital music revolution, Web music stores are promptly locating themselves irrelevant. Now that customers are able to simply purchase individual songs from I-Tunes and other sellers of digital downloads, customers need a really nice reason to purchase an entire CD. After all, if you only prefer one song, why pay for everything else? The following article will suggest some creative examples that Web music stores can use to ramp up their sales.

1. provide Sample Music Clips: This seems obvious, but it is amazing how few stores actually provide this. Many people want to try it before they buy it, so offering a 30 second sample of songs will greatly increase sales.

2. Search by Song Title: many Web music stores discover that customers usually search by song title when they can’t remember the performer or album name they are looking for. Adding a search by song feature (or better yet, search by lyrics) can dramatically increase the opportunitys that your customer will find what he is looking for.

3. Visitor Reviews & Ratings: A short paragraph written by a professional music reviewer is simply not enough. Customers want to know what other “normal” people contemplate the CD. Let them rate and write their own reviews of a CD. This will empower your visitors and establish a sense of Web community.

4. Show Them What’s New: Don’t make your visitors sort through tons of pages just to find a new release. Show them what’s new from the start. many visitors don’t know exactly what they are looking for, so a suggestion would be much appreciated. For instance, C28’s Christian Music store shows highlights of a CDs of Christian Music on their home page.

5. News Section: Keeping your customers informed about what’s new and upcoming will establish a buzz around your new releases. Having a news section is a amazing way to get your customers excited about upcoming music. prefer it or not, digital music is here to stay. World Wide Web music stores must find a way to evolve or they will promptly find themselves irrelevant. If properly implemented, the pointers above will serve as a nice starting point for starting this evolution and in the end, will hopefully increase sales.

Three Tips to Marketing Your Music on the Internet

Posted by Music Blog | Posted in Live Music Blog | Posted on 26-04-2009

Tags: ,

0

The Internet has revolutionized the way  we  do business. You can start  an Web business for less than $100.00 and start earning a decent amount of income off of it. Because of this, there has been an explosion in the ‘ Internet Marketing’ world. I don’t contemplate myself an Internet marketer, but I’ve studied many of them and have learned some ‘out of the box’ techniques that you can simply apply towards bands. Here are just a few of the many pointers I can give you:

* Give first One way to get something from other is to give to them first. In music, one way to build a fan base is to play at Clubs that do not charge a cover and invite people to come as your guest. You definately don’t want to play a lot of Clubs for free, so you need to somehow communicate that you’re doing this for your audiences in the absence of  saying it outright. You can say, “Hey guys, just to show you’re appreciation, Flaming Onions would prefer to personal ly invite you to this special performance just for you! It’s totally free, so bring your friends and we’ll see you there!” They will come, because they believe that this is a gift from you and the won’t want to miss out!

Another way to give first is through our products. Giving away products has gotten a lot easier since the development of the Internet. Digital music is HUGE! Better yet, it expenses nothing to duplicate.

Have you thought about giving away one or two songs from your new album? What do you think would happen if you did, and left your fan’s favorites available only if they purchased it? first of all, they are going to love the fact that you gave them part of your album for free! It’s al the majority prefer a free trial that they get to keep. Because you were willing to do this for them, they will be more prefer ly to buy it from you. Give first, and they will give back to you!

* Cross-selling/Up-selling Have you ever gone to McDonalds, ordered a burger and received the question, “Would you prefer fries with that?” Have you ever ordered one of their worth meals and received the question “Would you prefer to Super-Size that?” What you heard, while innocent enough, has been an amazing marketing idea that has been used by Web merchants everywhere !

It’s a way to increase sales to the same customer (who has bought a product) by introducing other products in your product range. If customers buy a Flaming Onions CD, you can ask If the y want to buy a Flaming Onions t-shirt as well.

Seems simple enough, but let’s think a little more out of the box. Let’s say the Flaming Onions’ CD  sells for $15 and brings in a profit of $10 per album. Let’s additionally assume that their t-shirts sell for $10 and bring in a profit of $6 per shirt.

What If the Flaming Onions Value Pack (consisting of 1 autographed CD, 1 t-shirt, and  the album emailed to them in MP3 format with bonus track for their iPod and a desktop background pic for their PC ) sells for $25? I’m willing to bet that this approach sells more. The digital products, as I mentioned above, fee nothing to duplicate.

You profit would be the same, but I guarantee you would sell more!

* Email List This is probably the the majority necessary tool that’s used by Web businesses. Internet Marketers swear by email lists and base many, if not all, of their systems around them. The idea is simple, you provide a list for audiences to keep track of your band and all they have to do is give you their Name and email address.

You now have a way to directly communicate to them, and better yet, they wanted it! You can  promote  upcoming shows and album releases. You can create contests and drawings for those that are signed up. You can give those who are signed up a special discount on merchandise. The possibilities are unlimited. One thing to remember is to only send them things they would want to know. They signed up to hear more about you, so they don’t want to receive any forwards stating that If the y sign up for this provide, they can receive a free laptop, blah, blah, blah! Don’t abuse your list. Take care of them. This is an elite group of people who wanted to be a part of your success, so treat them that way.
